My Trip To Portland

I spent last weekend in Portland, for a bachelor party for one of my best friends from college.  The groom to be loves craft beer so we planned to visit several local breweries.  I knew of a couple located in Portland, but I had no idea there were so many.

Our first stop was Allagash Brewing Company.  I have seen, and had, their White in many bars and restaurants in Boston, but I had no idea just how many other beers they make.  It was pretty difficult picking only 4 for my flight, but I finally managed to narrow things down and they were all fantastic.  My personal favorite was Curieux, which is aged in bourbon barrels for a very smooth and slightly sweet taste.  There was also a sushi food truck that was apparently fantastic, although I don’t eat sushi and even if I did, I might be too afraid to eat it out of a truck.

After Allagash, we walked across the street to an industrial park.  What all of that cold steel lacked in charm, it made up for in breweries – there are four who call that park home.  We did not visit all of them, but the couple that we did had great beer and cornhole boards, a great combination.  They were also dog friendly, so of course I did everything I could to make a couple of furry friends.

The wedding is May 4th – that’s also known as Star Wars day, which is not a coincidence – so the bachelor party couldn’t happen too late in the year.  But it couldn’t be too early in the year either, since it was going to be in Maine and they have some cold winters.  So we decided to have it the first weekend of April and just hope for the best.  Thankfully the weather mostly cooperated.  Overall, it was a fantastic weekend with some great old friends, and a few new ones too.  I can’t wait to see them all again in a few weeks for the big day.
