The Final Countdown!
By Thomas J. Lally, CFP®
We are closing in on two weeks from our due date and I can’t believe how quickly these almost nine months have flown by! With not much time left, we’re in pretty good shape with our preparations.
We’ve finished the pregnancy and baby classes from our hospital, Beth Israel. And we just completed the American Heart Association’s course on infant CPR, complete with a blowup dummy baby for practicing (which was as unsettling as it was important to do).
Everything has arrived – no small feat in this age of supply chain issues. The stroller came down to the wire a little, but after 5 months eventually arrived. The clothes are all washed and put away. We’ve figured out how the baby monitor works.
The furniture was set up a while ago, but more recently I put some holes in the wall to anchor things. We’ve built the last of the items – mostly smaller stuff like a swing and play area – so I should be able to put the screwdrivers away, at least for a couple of months.
There’s not much left to do now except wait, and pack those last minute hospital items when it’s finally time. And probably something else I will realize only too late that I forgot about….
